The disadvantages are:-
Speed.
It is very simple. The process is so quick, compared to a manual drawing that the thought process it takes to 'design' a lamp in to a rig is in danger of being bypassed.
Expense.
The equipment is expensive, but if you are reading this, then you must have at least some of the requirements to hand. Plotting the end results can be achieved by an outside agency via e-mail, and copies delivered to you and the theatre.
